Frequency Estimation and Tracking in Electrical Power Systems

This paper introduces a novel approach for estimating and tracking system frequency within the context of electrical power system monitoring, protection and control. Our contribution consists of combining two basic techniques for online frequency estimation. The invoked techniques for the combination are recursive Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and adaptive notch filter. Simulation tests show the superior performance of the proposed combination for tracking frequency variations.
