Estimation of Total Migration Time of Virtual Machines in Cloud Data Centers

Live migration of virtual machines is the transfer of a running virtual machine from one physical server to another with a short service downtime, usually invisible to users. Live migration is a costly operation, since it additionally loads servers and network, thus affecting the quality of service indicators and interferes with the monitoring of servers. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the total migration time. In this paper, we propose a statistical method for estimating total migration time. This will allow to determine the optimal size of the server monitoring window.
