Position-Aware Home Monitoring System

The widespread and pervasive use of the new Internet-connected devices is a great enabler for healthcare paradigms aimed at increasing the efficiency and lowering the cost of the medical act. Continuum of care can be enabled by smart home or ambient assisted living technologies. One of the main scenarios is the remote monitoring of chronic or elderly patients. Indoor positioning is critical in such scenarios, however, current indoor positioning systems lack precision and affordability. In this paper we present a prototype for an indoor positioning system using commercially available smart devices and a network of smart luminaries.
