Energy Saving and Smart Billing System for Household Consumers Connected to a Smart Grid in Tamil Nadu Power System

This paper discusses the idea of offering electricity to the consumers based on time differenced tariffs. This reduces the consumption of power at peak time and increases the demand responsiveness. This scheme encourages the active involvement of consumers in the consumption of power during peak hours. The Methodology of this work is to offer electricity based on load and time of power consumption. Smart metering techniques with the real time pricing scheme make the process simpler and cost effective. Smart meters are used to measure the accurate consumption of power throughout the day in real time and facilitate the real time monitoring and load sharing features in the real time pricing scheme.
