A proposal that constants used widely in electron and ion emission theory should be included in international listings of universal constants

Theories of electron and ion emission use various “special” universal constants defined as particular combinations of well-known fundamental constants. This paper proposes that the best known and most widely used universal constants of this type-in particular the first and second Fowler-Nordheim constants-should (if practicable) be included in international listings of universal constants. Some of the related issues are briefly noted.
