Planning and optimizing the cost of DGs for Stability of Green Field Distribution Network

In the present work, green field distribution network stability planning of a typical upcoming low-voltage high rise urban habitat in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India, is proposed. When integration of new load centres with existing distribution system is executed, the overall system suffers with dip in voltage profile, poor reliability and decrease in overall efficiency. To counter these delinquent, distributed network stability planning with solar PV modules and its cost comparison with that of diesel based DG for long term period are described. To mend voltage profile as well as to meet increase in demand during peak hours, best possible location and capacity of DGs is studied and proposed in present work. Load flow analysis and MATLAB has been utilized to determine the optimal location and capacity of DG. Twelve bus data, with best configuration obtained after insertion of new load centres was considered. By varying the capacity of DG as well as its location, best configuration is obtained. Numbers of nodes violating voltage limit were 8 before installing DG, which reduces to 2 after DG installation. DGs have been configured as stand-alone mode. It is also observed that instead of interconnecting two or more renewable source based DGs positioned in the close locality of each other, one large capacity DG is much more efficient. Long term planning and evaluation of renewable and non-renewable energy sources helps design engineer and investor to choose the superlative option among the two described.
