Application of Dicyclopentadiene Resin as an Alternative to Epoxy Resin to Molded Transformer Insulating Materials

This paper discusses the application of dicyclopentadiene resin as an alternative to epoxy resin to molded transformer insulating materials. Experimental results show that the electrical insulation and dielectric properties of DCP are equal to or better than those of conventional epoxy resin, although its mechanical properties are slightly inferior. The PDIV of a coil cast with DCP is 6 times as long as that of a coil cast with epoxy resin. In addition, the lifetime of a coil cast with DCP under ac voltage (1000 Hz) is about 10 times compared with that of a coil cast with epoxy resin
