Performance of BaTiO3-based Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors under High AC Loads

The multilayer ceramic capacitors’ (MLCC) performance under high ac loads was studied. The mean time to failure (MTTF) of MLCCs’ depending on voltage across the capacitor was established. It was found that MTTF follows the power law. The temperature spectra of capacitance and dissipation factor were obtained. Numerical simulation by means of Comsol Multiphysics was conducted showed unsuitability of small signal characteristics to evaluate capacitor’s performance under high loads.
