Surface Charge Accumulation and Decay on ZnO Sputtered Oil-impregnated Paper

With the aim of inhibiting charge accumulation and accelerating charge dissipation on the surface of oilimpregnated paper, a novel method to modify the surface property of the insulating paper applied in converter transformers is presented in this paper. The papers used in the experiment were sputtered with ZnO for different sputtering time of 0, 7.5, 15 and 30 min. The properties of the charge dissipation and trap distribution of the sputtered paper under different voltages were studied further by means of surface potential decay (SPD). The carrier mobility were also investigated. Obtained results showed that the sputtering with ZnO had an obvious influence on the charge characteristics of the insulating paper. The treatment was shown to reduce the initial potential and cause acceleration in the charge decay process.
