A Dual Sampling Cooperative Communication Method for Energy and Delay Reduction

This paper proposes a dual sampling cooperative communication scheme for use with Internet of Things (IoT) wireless networks. IoT is a recent concept regarding the interconnection of smart objects. We start with a three-terminal scenario. Different from the Decode-and-Forward (DF) relaying scheme, our cooperative communication approach also takes the signal from a direct link for decoding at the receiver. By deriving the Bit-Error-Rate expressions, we observe that under same energy consumption constraint, our cooperative communication outperforms DF relaying. Furthermore, we derive an expression for estimating the number of cooperative communication clusters in a random wireless network. Finally, regarding two-way communication, a dual sampling method is proposed to reduce the overall delay. Simulation results confirm that dual sampling cooperative communication not only saves energy, but also alleviates the average two-way transmission delay.
