Comparative Analysis of an Air-core PMLSM with New Double-layer Windings

A novel double-layer winding air-core PM linear synchronous motor (DW-APMLSM) is proposed to improve electrical performance in this paper. Firstly, the motor topology of the DW-APMLSM with 9-coils/6-poles is introduced and compared with other two traditional air-core PM linear synchronous motors (APMLSMs). The comparison principle is to keep the length of primary nearly same. Then, by analyzing the winding factor of the motors with different coil/pole combination, the double-layer winding structure is proved to have best electromagnetic performance. Finally, the electromagnetic performances of DW-APMLSM and two traditional APMLSMs are compared using 2D finite element analysis. The results show the DW-APMLSM owns highest thrust density.
