The Effect of Built-in CR Snubber Capacitor into the Power Module

This paper presents the effect of built-in snubber capacitor into power module. SiC will be introduced to the power converter in various applications. Therefore, the switching frequency will get higher in order to increase output density. However, on high speed switching, the line inductance lead the surge voltage and ringing oscillation. These problems could be the problems in the circuit like EMI noise. One of the solution to reduce these issues is to apply CR-snubber capacitor into the circuit. Furthermore, if CR snubber capacitor is embedded to the power module, this effect get much higher than conventional method.In this paper, we made built-in CR snubber capacitor into the power module and have tests to confirm this effect to reduce the above problems. Also we confirmed the effect difference from CR value, ambient temperature, switching frequency, line inductance and CR snubber capacitor position are evaluated quantitatively.
