Design Study on Salient Pole Shape of Rotor in SR Motor for Vibration Suppression Under 2-Stage Commutation Control

For reducing the noise and vibration of switched reluctance motor (SRM), many kinds of control methods have been proposed. 2-stage commutation method is one of effective method for active vibration cancellation (AVC). For proper operation of the 2-stage commutation method, there should be no vibration except for that at commutation. However, vibration is generally occurred at the point which commutation is not produced. Although 2-stage commutation method is used, it is difficult to reduce these vibration. In this study, through the electro-magnetic structural coupled analysis based on FEA for vibration and electromagnetic force in 4-phase 8/6 SRM, the reason why other vibration are occurred and the vibration reduction based on the 2-stage commutation does not work are investigated. According to the investigations, a new design on the shape of rotor pole to reduce vibration and noise is proposed. Through simulation and experiment, the vibration and noise reduction are revealed.
