EMI Characterization of Induction Brazing of Spacecraft Propulsion Lines

Induction brazing uses very large AC magnetic fields that induce strong local currents in metallic pieces being joined, which raises their temperature enough to melt the braze compound between them. The magnitude of the fields and the voltages induced in electronic interface circuits that are the terminal loads of the harnesses exposed to the braze fields were assessed by lab tests to determine the risk of damage. Simple models of the fields produced by the induction coil were used to determine minimum separations between an induction coil and harness to prevent overstress of electronics.
