MV MOTORS STARTING WITH AUTO-TRANSFORMER

In context of intelligent motor controls and wide use of electronic starters, the auto-transformer starter may seem somehow over passed. However, it has several advantages when used for starting of large and critical MV motors, in the 2 - 20 MW range. In this paper the authors will try to make you rediscover this starting method and discuss what design practices and engineering would be necessary for using this solution at its best performance.
