Single Sensor RF Emitter Location Using Ray Tracing Multipath Exploitation

A method is proposed to combine Ray-tracing (RT) simulation tool and the Channel Impulse Response (CIR) estimation to perform the Radio-frequency emitter location using a single Sensor. The ray-tracing simulation usually maps scatters positions and gives detailed information of the rays paths in an output file, the proposed method takes this information and together with the time delay estimation, estimate the RF emitter location using the reflection points as Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) Virtual Sensors. This approach aims to improve the performance of location system in scenarios with a small number of sensors or when there are technical restrictions to deploy them in LoS condition. Simulations were performed and compared with the measurements of a real TDoA system using four stations and showed the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
