The effect of the quality of spectrometric data on the result of their interpretation

The quality of the computer-based interpretation of spectrometric data depends not only on the efficiency of the algorithms applied but also on the quality of spectrometric data to be interpreted. In the paper, the latter effect is studied; in particular-the influence of spectral resolution, sampling step, noise level, and length of the binary representation of spectrometric data. The results of a comparative study are presented and discussed. Some conclusions, concerning the limitations of reliable interpretation of spectrometric data, are drawn.
