Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Hospital Libraries Meeting the E-Resources Challenge - A case with Marianjoy Medical Library

Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) have revolutionized the traditional concept of libraries. The changing health care environment, innovations in information technology, and globalization of information have completely altered the way in which the hospital libraries operate. This paper discusses the changes and challenges brought about by the emergence of ICT and the application of ICT for the effective management, access, and delivery of e-resources across multiple institutions and systems. It focuses on meeting these challenges through collaboration between librarians, Information Systems and Services (IS), publishers, and subscription agents. Most importantly, it discusses the potential of librarians in using the technologies to facilitate patient-centered care by providing timely access to critical information.
