Performance Analysis and Force Components Improvement of an Tubular Linear Induction Motor Used in a Novel Magnetic Train by 3-D FEM

The process of machines optimization is performed usually in the design stage by using the relationships, basic design criteria and determining the cost function. However, the optimum performance of machines will vary based on the applications they are used. This paper proposes an alternative way to achieving optimal performance by using the results of 3-D finite element method (FEM) analysis of an air-cored tubular linear induction motor that is used in a novel magnetic levitation (maglev) train. First, the components of the machine's force are obtained and analyzed with 3-D modeling and simulation using a FEM software, Maxwell. Then with respect to the software's capability and using a parametric analysis, the optimal performance of the novel maglev train topology is obtained with the least changes in the dimensions of the machine.
