The use of Modern Metering and Billing Systems to Increase the Efficiency of Electricity Distribution in the Distribution Network

The objective of this paper is to offer a method for using advanced measuring and billing data to balance energy supply and consumption in such small areas. Advanced measuring and billing systems provide better tools for energy distribution companies to obtain real measuring data on the energy and power transfer through MV/LV transformer stations and energy and power flow in LV networks. The energy balance obtained on the basis of real measurement data can be used for calculating real accounting loss and for delimiting areas in MV and LV networks with high levels of technical loss. It is also possible to obtain balance for small areas in the network, such as an area of LV network supplied from a single MV/LV transformer station, which will make it easier to locate a spot of illegal energy consumption.
