Design of PDMA Communication System Based on OQAM-OFDM

The conventional OFDM-based pattern division multiple access (PDMA) systems suffer from the problem of slow side-lobe attenuation. To alleviate this problem, we propose a new modulation waveform design, namely the offset quadrature amplitude modulation based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OQAM-OFDM). The proposed design method adds OQAM pre-modulation and filter banks to the conventional design of PDMA system. The application of the filter banks makes the system achieve a good frequency domain concentration performance and accelerates the side-lobe suppression effectively. We focus on the design for the downlink, however, the proposed method can be straightforwardly extended to the uplink transmissions. The simulation results show that the proposed design method not only improves the spectrum utilization efficiency of the system, but also efficiently reduces the block error rate in resistance to multipath interference.
