Live Video System-A Lecturer Mobile Assistant

The popularity of mobile devices and networks has a profound impact on education and teaching. In this paper, by using mobile and wireless network technology, we propose and implement a mobile assistant (LiveVideo sytem) to help teachers or lecturers give lessons or presentations more conveniently. Aiming to make up for shortcomings existed in traditional classroom or venue, LiveVideo is composed of a server and a client that provides functions such as handwriting board, portable live display, handwriting contents storage/re-preview/share, PPT remote controller, and so on. By introducing finger gesture control, LiveVideo's PPT controller enhances general mouse PPT controllers. LiveVideo provides lecturers with a real mobile lectern, and allows listeners in any location of the classroom or venue to clearly watch presentations. LiveVideo has been applied by many lecturers in classrooms, venues, and small discussions. Evaluation results show LiveVideo is a pervasive lecturer mobile assistant and can be used to upgrade traditional lecture room in a cost-effective way.
