Research on Multi-Cycle CPU Design Method of Computer Organization Principle Experiment

With the reform of teaching experiment of computer organization principle, the CPU design based on FPGA has become an integral part of it. In order to help students improve the success rate of experimental design, this paper explores a design method of multi-cycle CPU for teaching experiments. The design of data path and controller as well as the CPU verification method are given. We use Verilog language, ModelSim and Vivado software to code and simulate. Finally, we downloaded to the FPGA experiment board and completed a multi-cycle CPU design of 31 instruction sets. This method has been applied to the CPU design experiment of undergraduate students in our university, and it has achieved good results.
