Exploring the Attractive Attributes of Exhibition Experience in Museum

Education is the key activities of museums, together with keeping, research and presentation of museum objects. Museum experiencing is one of the important and effective ways in the learning process for informal education. In contrast to static displays with textual information, dynamic experiences are interactive and interesting, allowing visitors to be involved in their operation to obtain the information and concepts developments. To explore the different impact of museum exhibition designs and to discuss interactive design and visitor experience, the case of the national science and technology museum in Kaohsiung is used as the studied case. 125 subjects between 9–12 years old students were recruited for the evaluation experiment. The two-dimensional Kano model is also used to explore the different effects of experience attributes on visitor satisfaction with exhibition in museum. According to the results, the critical experience attributes for appealing visitors were identified. By applying the Kano quality classifications, these experience attributes of exhibition were classified into different quality categories, including attractive, one-dimensional, must-be and indifferent qualities. The attractive and important affective attributes can be determined to resolve the trade-offs dilemma in multiple-attribute decision making. These can provide useful insights for museum and designers to design attractive experience of exhibition for enhancing visitor satisfaction.
