Android Based Multilevel Biometric Security System for Industrial Applications

Enterprises use paraphernalia which tend to be unduly sensitive and have exorbitant rates. Thus, only some licit personnel should be able to access as well as operate these. This brings in the need for an access control system. Biometrics is an upcoming technology being used for access control. Biometrics makes use of a person's unique features like face, fingerprint, iris, ear etc. to identify a person. They are propitious as they cannot be shared, forgotten or stolen. This paper presents a multilevel biometric security system. The two levels of security involved are face recognition for identification and fingerprint recognition for authentication. An android based face recognition application provides the first level of security. The app uses the method of normalized cross correlation for face recognition. The bluetooth of the phone interacts with ARM 7 based microcontroller LPC2148 via bluetooth module HC-05. The second level of security is provided using R305 fingerprint scanner which does a pattern matching based on the ridges and valleys. Only after traversing through these two levels, will an authorized person be able to access the said industrial equipment. This paper presents an access control system for a solar panel cleaning bot. This system provides augmented security and has the advantage of being portable and having a low power requirement, but the effectiveness of sample collection process is subject to the environmental conditions, user training and usability.
