Improvement of the Energy Method for Stray Capacitance Modelling of Transformer Winding in High Voltage Power Supplies

Stray capacitance of a high voltage transformer winding is an important parasitic element. It influences the behavior of the high voltage switching power converters. Energy method is a widely used well-known method for calculating the winding capacitance. However, the adjacent pairs of turns is considered only in many references. In this paper, an investigation is presented about the accuracy of the energy method. Some guidelines for achieving a better accuracy as well as simplicity of the model for capacitance calculating are presented. The proposed method is tested and validated with the computer simulation and the experimental measurement.
