Robust, Accurate Systems-based Power Electronic Circuit Models in Simulink

This paper presents robust and accurate systems-based modelling of power electronic circuits in Simulink. The i-v characteristics of a generic half-bridge consisting of practical power semiconductor devices are shown to have properties which guarantee the resulting nonlinear equations can be uniquely solved using the MATLAB command fzero. The proposed systems-based technique is more accurate than circuit-based techniques currently available in Simulink, which use piecewise-linear representations of i-v characteristics, due to its ability to capture nonlinear i-v relationships. As a result, the proposed technique features more accurate conduction loss estimation.
