Data Rate Adaptation Algorithms Survey for IEEE 802.11 Networks

Rate Adaptation for IEEE 802.11 Wireless Networks has been a topic of extensive research. Rate Adaptation is adopting the best optimal data transmission rate and adjusting it according to the channel conditions and other dynamic channel properties. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the rate adaptation schemes developed for IEEE 802.11 Ad-hoc networks. We have surveyed and summarized their characteristics and classified rate adaptation algorithms on their methods of channel estimation, rate estimation and rate adjustment. This paper also elaborates on the major rate adaptation schemes developed for the IEEE 802.11 network.
