Plasmonic Photonic Crystal Slab: Surface Wave-Assisted Binding for Lipoprotein Detection

We experimentally demonstrate the detection of low-density lipoprotein by utilizing a surface-wave resonance (SWR) in a plasmonic photonic crystal slab. Nonspecific and specific binding protocols were used for the slab subjected to laser excitation. We have observed that excitation of SWR during the biomolecular binding increases the slab responsivity by a factor of 3.
