Electrification System Simulation Study of the Proposed Dar-Moro Standard Gauge Model In Tanzania

Electric train power demand which is supplied by substations varies from a huge positive power (peak-power) in a starting phase to a negative power during braking. If not well designed, the performance of the system may not be successful. Moreover, the grid power consumed by the railway system and power losses depend on various factors which include: train model, driving and track profiles, and headways. The harvested regenerative braking energy can be used to subsidize the consumed power. In this paper, simulations of the proposed Dar es Salaam Morogoro (Dar-Moro) standard gauge under various factors mentioned are carried out. Under certain defined conditions power consumed, catenary voltage and power losses results are presented.
