Customer-and Network-Aware Decentralized EV Charging Control

In this paper, we develop a decentralized electric vehicle (EV) charging control framework that can (i) alleviate impacts of EV charging on the distribution network including nodal voltage drop and transformer overloading, (ii) utilize aggregated charging power to facilitate grid-level services, and (iii) enable drivers to designate local charging objectives. The control design is formulated as an optimization problem with a non-separable objective function, and globally and locally coupled constraints. We present an improved shrunken-primal-dual subgradient (SPDS) algorithm to support the decentralized control scheme. Simulations are conducted under various realistic scenarios to verify the efficacy of the proposed framework.
