A Consequent Pole Motor with Novel Pole Structure

This paper presents a consequent pole motor with novel pole structure that can reduce the torque ripple. The consequent pole motor shows comparatively large torque ripple because of the rotor structure. Therefore, some idea to reduce the torque ripple is required. A pole-end angle is defined in this study, and the torque ripple rate is obtained for this angle. A basic motor model is introduced to compare with developed motor models which are model A and final model B. Analysis is carried out by the simulation software using the three-dimensional finite element method. According to simulation results, the final model B with the pole-end angle of 100° shows good torque ripple rate, and it is reduced by 89 % compared with the model A that has a symmetric rotor structure. The average torque is slightly higher than that of the basic model.
