Design and Optimization Platform for Synchronous Motors

The Design and Optimization Platform (DOP) application addresses the design, analysis and optimization procedure for synchronous motors, where we mention the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), the Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) and the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM), while also providing a user friendly environment, and an easy to use interface. The PMSM and SynRM have a multitude of topologies available, which include 3 stator and 3 rotor types each. The validation of the platform, concerning the SynRM, will be performed in this study, while the PMSM validation was already done [2]. A general overlook will be presented, describing in details all the capabilities, as well as the structure and steps that need to be followed in order to achieve a functioning model. There are currently 4 software packages (MATLAB, Simulink, JMAG-Designer, FEMM) required in order for the platform to function, only one being open-source which also uses MATLAB functions to operate. The main goal for the future is to have two distinct parts for each motor, one using common electromagnetic analysis software (JMAG-Designer and MATLAB), and the other being fully open source (FEMM and SciLab).
