Comparative Study of the Performance of Brushless DC Motor with Permanent Magnets Under Classic and Dual-Channel Operation

A dual-channel operation of brushless direct current motor with permanent magnets is possible due to the application of dual independently supplied windings and two independent power converters. A cost of such solution is higher in comparison with classic drive system. In the paper performance of brushless direct current motor with permanent magnets in dual-channel operation (DCO) mode and classic operation mode is compared. The mathematical model of such system is presented. Based on the mathematical model, the analysis of selected operating modes was conducted. Laboratory tests of the system were carried out. Efficiency of chosen motor is slight higher for dual-channel operation mode.
