Thermal Changes of the Induction Motor for Different Power Frequencies

The paper presents the results of measurements and analyses regarding the impact of power frequency on the distortion of current and voltage in relation to thermal effects occurring in an induction motor. The tests for various frequencies were carried out on a specially prepared laboratory bench using a thermovision camera that records thermal images of the motor and a power quality investigator recording characteristic electrical quantities in cycle-by-cycle mode and in accordance with IEC 61000-4-30. The presented qualitative analysis of thermograms and deformed electrical waveforms allowed to estimate the relationship between power frequency and thermal effects of the motor. The study enriches and documents the actual measurements of thermal phenomena and instantaneous current and voltage waveforms along with their spectral distributions.
