Topological Adjustment of Distribution Grids Based on Grid Performance Indicators for Improved Planning and Operation

Due to the high and continually increasing penetration of distributed power generation in Germany, many medium voltage distribution grids are going to reach their capacity limits. A meshed grid topology such as “closed loop”“-operation and interconnections between subgrids on the same voltage level can contribute to a reliable operation of the critical infrastructure. A novel methodology to validate and evaluate these meshed grid topologies in order to optimize them for the variable load situations is presented and discussed.
