Influencing Radial Vibration in Switched Reluctance Machine via Altering the Design of Endcaps

Vibration and acoustic noise in Switched Reluctance Machine is originated from magnetic forces that act on the stator has been an undesirable feature that limited its application. As a result, various modeling and control techniques have been proposed to minimize the vibration of the stator and torque pulsation acting on the rotor. However, few works have been done on the effect of the mass distributions of the stator endcaps that might have on the vibration. This paper investigates various endcap designs with different hole configurations using structural finite-element method demonstrating a basic pattern between acceleration and mass distribution in endcaps, which might further assist the reduction of vibration and acoustic noise in SRM and other electric machines.
