A joint DOA-DOD estimation based on improved ESPRIT method for bistatic MIMO radar

A novel joint DOA-DOD estimation approach for biastatic multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar was proposed in this paper. By using different eigenvectors in DOD and DOA estimation, the improved rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT) method can avoid the erroneous DOD results caused by the identical DOA estimations of multiple targets. Furthermore, the proposed approach obtains the final joint DOA-DOD estimation by employing an original pairing method based on correlation analysis. The numerical simulated results demonstrate that the proposed approach can greatly improve the DOA-DOD estimation accuracy for multiple targets with identical DOA.
