A wideband magneto-electric dipole antenna for circularly polarized radiation

A wideband circularly polarized (CP) magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna has been designed in this paper. The proposed antenna fed by a Γ-shaped probe consists of a pair of rotationally symmetric horizontal patches and two vertical patches with the ground. With and a metallic cavity with two gaps, good performances including wideband and low back lobe level are achieved. A prototype was fabricated, and measurement results demonstrate an impedance bandwidth of 65% for SWR≤2 and a 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 71.5%.
