Effects of finite ground plane size on radiation characteristics for a tilted-beam antenna system

A tilted-beam antenna system consisting of a patch backed by a square ground plane and three inhomogeneous loop plates is presented. Effects of the ground plane on the radiation pattern, gain, and VSWR are analyzed. The gain with the infinite ground plane is reduced by approximately 2.5 dB when the ground plane size equals the inhomogeneous loop plate size; however, the beam tilt angle and the VSWR bandwidth are almost unchanged.
