Cavity-baked slot antenna for 5g communications

In this paper, a novel millimeter wave (mm-Wave) phased array antenna has been investigated for the upcoming 5th generation mobile device. The radiating element is composed of a cavity-backed slot with a gradual step inside which is connected to a short pin that connects to a micostrip feeding line. The proposed phased array antenna is working at the frequency of 28 GHz and can be easily integrated into current metallic frame handset devices while maintaining with good beam-steering characteristic. Extensive simulations ascertain the proposed mm-Wave phased antenna to be highly effective for mobile handsets with good performance.
