Assessment of Radio-Frequency Radiation Exposure Levels: A Case of Selected Mobile Base Stations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Electromagnetic Radiations (EMF) have been one of the source of health concerns due to a growing number of wireless communication infrastructures. Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has been conducting compliance tests on different EFM sources. Nonetheless, there is still public concern regarding health effects from emitted radiations. Therefore, continuous monitoring of EMF is important in order to ensure the safety of the people. This research aimed at measuring the radiations emitted from mobile base stations and comparing them with the International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guideline. The measurements were done in three selected sites in Dar es Salaam using Selective Radiation Meter and the results were analyzed using Matlab. The maximum radiation obtained from these sites was 0.0882 W/m

which was within the ICNIRP guideline. This research work will increase awareness to the general public and the stakeholders about the radiations emitted and their compliance to ICNIRP guidelines.
