Research on the algorithm of noisy laser stripe center extraction

Considering various interference such as environmental change, surface roughness, background reflection and so on, the extraction of laser stripe center should be difficult, especially for bent or irregular laser stripes with noise. Because of the noise diversity, this paper firstly designs a template to finish a two-step convolution process for eliminating the false light-spots, then uses a median filter to reduce the random noise. After identifying every point's normal equation along the edge of the stripe in a small neighborhood, the nearest neighboring points around the normal are searched and based on the gray values of these points, the gravity method is used to extract the sub-pixel coordinates of the stripe centers. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of the algorithm.
