Automotive Qualification Routines for Power Electronics Components in Electrified Powertrains

The last years' work and results of two industry experts' teams inside of the joint ZVEI-ECPE working group 'High Temperature and Power Electronics' are summarized. Derived from the 'core-unit' of each power electronics drive inverter - the commutation cell - two main components were under expert discussions and investigations about qualification routine demands regarding on the later usage in automotive vehicles: the power module and the DC-link capacitor. In these two teams, one for the module and one for the capacitor, considerations took place about which 'state of the art routines' are already available and applicable together in general. As well considerations took place which routines are incomplete or missed from the perspective of automotive requirements and what has to be implemented absolutely new to assure automotive high level reliability and robustness demands.
