Root-locus method for the stability analysis of high-order FDTD

In this article, the Root-Locus method is used for the stability analysis of the high-order staggered finite difference time domain implementation of Two-Pole Debye dispersive media. It is shown that the position of the wave-equation roots in the complex plane determines whether the stability of the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method and allows the computation of the Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL). Numerical simulations are carried out for Two-Pole Debye model to validate the obtained results.
