Influence of active overexcitation limiters on power system transfer capability

This paper analyzes the influence of overexcitation limiters (OELs) activation on transfer capability of power systems. The work focuses on transient stability evaluation, taking into account different OEL models, including the takeover and summed types. Initially an investigation related to the stability margin is developed, and then, the transfer capacity between two areas is analyzed. The results have shown that the activation of overexcitation limiters can result is a significant reduction in both stability margin and transfer capability.
