High power factor converter for LED drivers based on isolated Ćuk topology

This paper shows the study of the isolated Ćuk converter operating in the discontinuous conduction mode. It is presented the main relations of the converter, as well as the analysis of the influence of the magnetizing inductance upon the design process. The converter is employed as an LED driver so that some constraints regarding the input and the output currents must be met. A detailed design methodology is presented, including the sizing of the power circuit as well as the control loop. Simulations were carried out in order to verify the performance of the studied converter, showing that the isolated Ćuk converter has a high power factor and a good regulation of the output current.
