Microdevice for magnetic cell separation simple fabrication and simulation analysis

Rare cells separation from blood as in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) isolation and other cells from blood has fetal importance in disease monitoring and treatment. Here we study a method for cancer cells separation from patient blood or buffer sample by magnetic focusing technique. Magnetic and drag forces computational simulation and calculations been presented. The microfluidic device chractrization, was carried by using COMSOL Multiphysics 4.3a modeling software (COMSOL, Inc.) The simulation was carried out in two stages including magnetic field generated from the permanent magnet positioned at a specific distance from the microchannel wall and the cell/particle tracing for cell separation verifications. Separation with 98% purity and efficiency of the unwanted particle was achieved 0.105m/s velocity. Considering the results achieved and cancer cells size about 15 μm, our proposed microchannel device is a good candidate for cancer cells separation from blood/buffer.
