Performance analysis for segmented multiple support rods helix TWT suppressing thermal deformation

We propose a novel helix slow-wave structure (SWS) with segmented multiple support rods, adding three short support rods at the end of the helix in TWT for the purpose of suppressing thermal deformation. The effect of increasing the number of support rods on the operating performance of a TWT is evaluated by simulation, and we find the high-frequency characteristics of the SWS do not change much, the difference in phase velocity between the SWS with three support rods and the SWS with six support rods is less than 3% in the working band (8-18 GHz), and the difference in coupling impedance is less than 2 Ω. The result of the beam-wave interaction shows the saturated output power of segmented multiple support rods helix TWT is higher, which means that it is possible to add three additional short support rods.
