The development of competency-based training course on expert coaching for senior vocational teachers in Laos

This research aims to develop the competency- based training course on the expert coaching for senior vocational teachers in Laos. The vocational teachers have to utilize the effective learning and teaching method together with teacher's duties and responsibilities in their work. The paper described the approaches and opportunities of the evaluated course to train and provide the professional development training to senior vocational teachers. The training course covered the mass of experience, rationalized knowledge strategies, skills, and attitudes to be able to coach or help other colleagues in their field to perform their duties more efficiently. The competencies of the expert coaching have been analyzed and synthesized as follows: 1) coaching principles, 2) coaching development plan, 3) collaboration, 4) leadership, and 5) evaluation, feedback & support. The result found that the training course was accurate and appropriate at the high level and high correspondence in all items between elements of the training course and the behavioral objectives. The satisfaction and the agreement on this course can be considered to integrate into the Vocational Education Development Institute (VEDI) for the advanced training course and created the expert-coaching handbook as a learning guide for TVET teachers and interest persons.
